MIT Grad Uses Dance to Inspire Black Girls in STEM”

In a field where Black women are vastly underrepresented, one MIT graduate is making waves by using dance to inspire the next generation of young girls to pursue STEM careers. After being one of the few Black women in her engineering program, this trailblazing MIT alumna is blending her passion for dance with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Her initiative aims to break stereotypes and show that creativity and technical fields like engineering can go hand in hand.

Her workshops, combining choreography with STEM concepts, are reaching out to underserved communities across the USA. The idea is to make STEM more accessible and less intimidating, particularly for girls of color who may feel out of place in predominantly white, male-dominated spaces. By infusing dance, she’s showing young girls that STEM can be fun, creative, and a powerful tool for personal and professional growth. As she continues her work, her story is helping reshape the narrative around who belongs in STEM fields and how they get there.
