Emily Calandrelli, 100th Woman in Space, Refuses to Bow to Critics

Emily Calandrelli, known as “The Space Gal,” recently made history by becoming the 100th woman to travel to space aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard mission. Launching from Texas, Calandrelli joined five other passengers for a flight that allowed them to experience three minutes of weightlessness. Her journey is part of the growing inclusivity in space exploration, showcasing the opportunities commercial space programs provide.

Despite her accomplishments, Calandrelli has faced criticism online, especially from detractors questioning her contributions. However, she remains unfazed, using her platform to inspire girls in STEM fields. As an MIT engineer and Emmy-nominated science communicator, Calandrelli hopes her journey encourages others to see space as a reachable dream. Her persistence and positivity continue to break barriers in the space industry.
