WASHINGTON, D.C. — US President Donald Trump marked his first year back in the White House on Tuesday with an extended press briefing, during which he highlighted what he described as major achievements in foreign policy, global security and economic strength.
Standing before a packed room of reporters at the White House, Trump waved stacks of documents and touted what he said were accomplishments that few other presidents have achieved in a single year.
“This has been an incredible 365 days,” Trump said, naming successes from ending wars to reshaping international diplomacy, and repeatedly stressing that his policies are driving global stability and American standing around the world.
‘Eight Wars Ended’: Trump Repeats Bold Claims
Trump claimed that his administration had effectively ended eight conflicts in less than a year — including one between India and Pakistan — saying that the U.S. had helped preventing a possible nuclear confrontation between the two nuclear‑armed neighbours. He echoed remarks that during a brief but intense escalation last year, multiple aircraft had been lost before de‑escalation occurred.
“It was going to get very bad. We intervened, and it stopped,” Trump said, asserting that Pakistan’s prime minister thanked him for saving millions of lives.
Analysts note that while the United States played a role in reducing tensions, India has denied that any third‑party mediation was responsible for the May 2025 ceasefire, and diplomatic accounts vary on the extent of US involvement.
Trump also claimed credit for peace efforts involving conflicts in the Middle East, Africa and Europe, including Gaza and Armenia‑Azerbaijan, although critics and experts have warned that some of these statements exaggerate the White House’s influence in entrenched disputes.
Launch of ‘Board of Peace’ and Criticism of the UN
During the briefing, Trump announced the establishment of a new Board of Peace, a US‑led initiative he says will help facilitate global conflict resolution more effectively than traditional institutions. He emphasized that the new body is not intended to replace the United Nations, but to supplement global diplomacy where he believes the UN has fallen short.
“The United Nations did not help stop a single war that I resolved,” Trump said, positioning his peace initiative as a proactive step to address global strife more effectively.
The Board of Peace has already attracted participation from several countries, including Pakistan, which recently said it would join the initiative focused on lasting peace in Gaza and beyond.
Iran, Venezuela, and Broader Security Actions
Trump also touched on other major international operations during his first year, including what he described as actions against Iran’s nuclear program and the removal of Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro in a dramatic US military operation. He said such moves had helped reduce threats and create openings for investment and stability in previously unstable regions.
On Venezuela, a US‑brokered oil sale worth roughly $500 million was cited as an example of economic and strategic gains following Maduro’s ouster.
Domestic Themes and Immigration
Trump did not limit his remarks to foreign policy. He praised US economic performance, claimed the stock market was at record highs and highlighted what he said was a reversal of inflation from the previous administration. He also reiterated his hardline stance on immigration, claiming significant declines in illegal crossings and staunch support for border enforcement agencies.
Throughout the lengthy briefing, Trump framed his first year as one of “reasserting American leadership”, with a focus on peace, security and economic renewal — themes likely to play a central role in his campaign rhetoric in the months ahead.
