Trump Launches “TrumpRx” Website Offering Discounted Prescription Drugs

Washington, D.C. — US President Donald Trump on Thursday unveiled TrumpRx, a self-branded online platform that allows consumers to buy discounted prescription medications directly from manufacturers. The initiative aims to address rising drug costs and appeal to voters ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

“Starting tonight, dozens of the most commonly used prescription drugs will be available at dramatic discounts for all consumers,” Trump announced during the White House event. “Americans have long been paying the highest drug prices anywhere in the world… the American people were effectively subsidizing the cost of drugs for the entire world.”

Deep Discounts on Weight-Loss and Fertility Medications

TrumpRx launches with savings on more than 40 popular drugs, including GLP-1 weight-loss treatments and fertility medications. Pharmaceutical companies Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk have agreed to offer their high-cost products at substantially reduced prices through the site.

  • Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic: Reduced from over $1,000 to $199 per month.
  • Eli Lilly’s Wegovy: Cut from $1,300 to $199 per month.

The site allows users to search for medications, print a coupon, and redeem it at participating pharmacies. Prices are set to gradually rise after an initial two-month promotional period.

At the launch, officials introduced a woman identified as the first person to use TrumpRx for discounted fertility treatment. Dr. Mehmet Oz, now Trump’s administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, commented, “We’re gonna have a lot of Trump babies with these costs.”

Part of Broader Cost-Cutting Strategy

The Trump administration has secured deals with top drug manufacturers, leveraging “Most Favored Nation” pricing to match the lowest costs offered in other wealthy countries. In return, companies have received incentives such as relief from tariffs imposed by Trump since his return to power.

The president has also pressured countries including the UK and France to agree to pharmaceutical pricing deals, often publicly mocking leaders like French President Emmanuel Macron over drug costs.

Political Context

Trump’s push to reduce prescription costs comes as polls indicate low approval ratings, especially on economic issues. Republicans face potential losses in the November midterms, which could cost the party control of Congress. Trump has warned that defeat could increase the risk of a third impeachment.

The TrumpRx initiative reflects a strategic effort to appeal to voters frustrated by high medical expenses, while showcasing the administration’s ability to negotiate directly with major pharmaceutical companies.
