President Donald Trump has expressed confidence that the United States could reach a new agreement with Iran after the US elections, while calling for continued economic pressure on Tehran and warning against Iran acquiring nuclear weapons.
Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, Trump said Iran had turned down an American proposal that he described as an opportunity for economic cooperation in exchange for Tehran ending its support for terrorism.
According to Trump, the rejection was a significant mistake by the Iranian government. He urged countries around the world to maintain economic pressure on Iran and argued that international unity would be important in dealing with Tehran.
Trump Signals Possible Post-Election Iran Agreement
Trump said the United States had already engaged in discussions with Iran and had attempted to address disputes that have continued between the two countries for decades.
While criticizing Iran’s leadership, Trump indicated that diplomacy remained possible. His comments suggested that Washington could pursue another effort to negotiate with Tehran following the US elections.

During his UN address, Trump pointed to Operation Midnight Hammer, saying the US military operation had inflicted major damage on Iran’s nuclear program.
Trump said Iran’s military capabilities and air defense systems had also suffered damage. He argued that the developments had reduced Iran’s ability to project military power in the region.
His remarks come amid continued international attention on Iran’s nuclear activities and the broader security situation in the Middle East.
Trump also referenced oil shipments moving through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy corridors. Millions of barrels of oil pass through the region, making stability around the waterway a major concern for global energy markets.
Trump Praises Pakistan’s Shehbaz Sharif
Trump also used his UN appearance to praise Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, describing him as an excellent person.
Trump claimed that Sharif had played a role in helping save millions of lives. He also repeated his claim that he helped bring an end to the conflict between Pakistan and India, while saying he had contributed to efforts to resolve eight wars around the world.
Trump further mentioned Pakistan alongside Qatar, Jordan and other countries involved in the Gaza Peace Board. He praised the individuals participating in the initiative and described them as highly respected figures.
Trump Claims US Economy Is Entering a New Era
Beyond foreign policy, Trump highlighted what he described as improvements in the American economy.
He said international investors were putting money into the United States and claimed the country had entered a “golden era” of economic growth. Trump also pointed to increasing tourism and said his administration had helped generate substantial private-sector employment.
The president contrasted the current economic situation with what he described as difficult conditions inherited from the previous administration.
