US Bombs Iran’s Kharg Island; Trump Warns Oil Facilities Could Be Next

President Donald Trump announced a major U.S. military strike on Iran’s strategic Kharg Island, stating that all military targets on the island were “totally obliterated.” The president also warned that Iran’s oil infrastructure could be targeted if Tehran interferes with the free passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

Posting on Truth Social shortly after boarding Air Force One, Trump described the strike as “one of the most powerful bombing raids in the history of the Middle East.” He emphasized that the operation deliberately avoided Iran’s oil facilities, which are critical to global energy markets.

“I have chosen NOT to wipe out the Oil Infrastructure on the Island. However, should Iran, or anyone else, do anything to interfere with the Free and Safe Passage of Ships… I will immediately reconsider this decision,” Trump said.

Calls for Iranian Surrender

Trump urged Iran to “lay down its weapons” and warned the country to “save what’s left of their country, which isn’t much.” He emphasized that U.S. forces hold “a position of dominance that nobody’s ever seen before” and reiterated that Iran’s navy, air force, and major military capabilities have been decimated.

When asked about the expected duration of the conflict, Trump declined to provide a timeline, stating:

“I can’t tell you that. It’ll be as long as it’s necessary. They’ve been decimated.”

He added that an unconditional Iranian surrender would mark the end of the war, and noted that while U.S. objectives may differ slightly from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, American military power in the region is “unparalleled.”

Strategic Importance of Kharg Island

Kharg Island is Iran’s primary oil-export hub, with roughly 90% of the country’s oil exports passing through it. While the recent strike targeted military installations only, any escalation to oil facilities could have major regional and global economic consequences, potentially affecting global oil prices and energy security.

The strike underscores the escalating U.S.-Iran conflict and highlights the strategic leverage the U.S. holds over critical maritime routes in the Gulf, including the Strait of Hormuz.
