NASA’s CubeSat Launch Initiative Opens for 2026-2029 Proposals
NASA has announced its CubeSat Launch Initiative (CSLI) is accepting proposals for new missions scheduled between 2026 and 2029. CubeSats are small, low-cost spacecraft used by educational institutions, non-profits, and NASA centers to demonstrate and mature technologies in space. Eligible US educational institutions and non-profits are encouraged to apply, with a focus on workforce development and minority-serving institutions.
Hands-On Opportunities for Students
“CubeSats offer a hands-on opportunity for students to explore the space industry and potentially launch their careers,” said Jeanie Hall, CSLI program executive at NASA Headquarters.
Selected teams will receive guidance from NASA mission managers, improving their hardware design and development. Proposals are due by November 15, with selections finalized by March 14, 2025. Applicants are responsible for funding their CubeSat development.
Past and Upcoming Missions
NASA has launched over 160 CubeSats from 45 states, including recent launches on Firefly Aerospace’s Alpha rocket and deployments from the International Space Station (ISS). Notable missions include CatSat and KUbeSat-1, which are testing new technologies in space.
