Princess of Wales to Lead Special Christmas Carol Service at Westminster Abbey

This December, the Princess of Wales will return to Westminster Abbey to host a highly anticipated Christmas carol service on December 8th. The service, part of the royal family’s Christmas celebrations, will have a special focus on the importance of supporting young children and families in the UK. This year’s event ties in with the Princess’s “Shaping Us” campaign, which highlights the critical role that early childhood development plays in shaping a kinder and more compassionate society.

Guests at the service will include key community figures such as midwives, health workers, and early years practitioners, who work tirelessly to support families and children across the country. These individuals have been nominated for their exceptional contributions to society and their dedication to ensuring children grow up in nurturing environments.

The service will feature performances by celebrated artists like Beverley Knight, Adam Lambert, Jacob Collier, Freya Ridings, and James Bay. Their musical performances will join the world-renowned Westminster Abbey choir in filling the space with both traditional and modern carols, offering a festive atmosphere that resonates with people of all faiths and backgrounds.

In addition to the service at Westminster Abbey, twelve smaller community carol services will take place across the UK, ensuring that the festive spirit extends to all corners of the nation. These services aim to bring together local communities, celebrate their work, and provide a moment of joy during the winter season.

The event is a co-production between the Royal Foundation and BBC Studios, with plans for the service to be broadcast on Christmas Eve, allowing people around the world to join in the celebration. The event promises to shine a light on the incredible contributions made by those working to support the youngest members of society
