White House and Slovak Leader Deny Report on Trump’s Mental State

Washington, D.C. / Bratislava — Both the White House and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico have firmly denied reports suggesting concerns about President Donald Trump’s mental health were shared with European leaders.

Politico, citing unnamed European diplomats, claimed that Fico described Trump’s “psychological state” as worrying during a summit last week. The report also alleged that the Slovak leader called the US president “dangerous” following their meeting in Florida on January 17.

White House Pushes Back

“This is absolutely total fake news from anonymous European diplomats who are trying to be relevant. The meeting at Mar-a-Lago was positive and productive,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly told AFP.

The White House statement emphasized that the claims were baseless and aimed at undermining the administration with unverified sources.

Fico Denounces the Claims

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, a nationalist ally of Trump, also dismissed the report, labeling it “lies.” Posting on social media platform X, Fico wrote in all capitals, mirroring Trump’s style: “I strongly reject the lies of the hateful, pro-Brussels liberal portal Politico.”

Fico added that he did not discuss his visit to the US with any other prime minister or president and that the claims about his assessment of the meeting were completely fabricated. “No one heard anything, no one saw anything, there are no witnesses, but nothing prevented the Politico portal from coming up with lies,” he said.

Talks at Mar-a-Lago

The Slovak leader described his visit to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, as “exceptionally important,” emphasizing the productive nature of the discussions. Details of the talks were not disclosed, but the visit reportedly focused on trade, security, and regional cooperation.

Heightened Sensitivity Around Trump’s Health

President Trump, who will turn 80 in June, has faced increased scrutiny over his physical and mental health. Footage showing him appearing drowsy in meetings, along with reports of frequent bruising, has fueled speculation.

Trump has consistently contrasted his own vitality with that of former President Joe Biden, portraying his predecessor as frail. The topic of presidential health remains particularly sensitive, given that Trump is the oldest person ever elected to the US presidency.
